There is the saying that one may succeed in bringing a bushman out of the bush, but may not succeed in removing the bush from his way of doing things. With so many years of military rule, it is becoming clearer by the day that thirteen years of so-called democratic experiment are rather too short to wipe away autocratic and dictatorial tendency of governing the country. President Jonathan should eat his humble pie by reversing the odious decision of renaming UNILAG Moshood Abiola University. Joseph Oladejo Faniran, CIWA, Port Harcourt, Rivers State

There are seven new federal universities approved within the last one year and Jonathan could have changed the name of any of them into Moshood Abiola University without meeting any resistance since they only exist on paper. UNILAG cannot become MAUL or MALU just because one man thinks he owns Nigeira because he resides in Aso Rock.

"I have on several occasions opined that what we currently have in Nigeria is a civilian regime that cannot be called a democracy. Indeed, I coined the word "corruptocracy" to describe our extant experience of Government of the corrupt, by the corrupt, for the corrupt.
I am fundamentally opposed to naming our universities for politicians. I prefer that these institutions be named by ownership or location. As great an advocate of education as Awolowo was, I would not have renamed the University of Ife for him. The way are going, Ibadan will end up as Olusegun Obasanjo University someday! In any case, if a university should be named for MKO, I would have wished it to be University of Abuja."
