i can go along with this judgment, "fantastic." it needs expansion, in
fact to those like our ikhide himself, whose blog now functions in that
same digital space, to nollywood on air, on pirate tracks, where the
copyright control of dissemination, where the very control over what
counts as valuable (pace Ikhide and scientific knowledge) is engaged in
a struggle over both authorizing forces and capitalized organizations
that want to maintain economic control.
this is inevitable. a new nollywood is being formed as we speak, with
showings now projected in theatres as venues, with all that that
comports for changing the models of exhibition and therefore
distribution in the direction of the industrial model that hollywood had
erected.
the same goes for the productionof the book versus the web, sites like
africultures that are free and which take essays like ikhide's blogs,
where the turnaround time to publication might be minutes. if i sent an
article to a top journal now, it might take one to two years before it
sees print. how up-to-date would it be then?? books, same thing. 2 years.
we are in exciting times, and i think will continue to have to fight
against the regulators and authenticators, at least to some extent, if
it is not to change from "fantastic" to "well-regulated," and then
"canonical," and then, no longer really interesting--just monumental, or
forgotten
