USA Africa Dialogue Series - start date of the Atlantic slave trade in the Niger Delta

Hello,

 

I am looking for help finding the rough period of the Atlantic slave trade in the Niger Delta. Sources usually give the start date for the trade in West Africa – not specifically when it began in the Niger Delta. As best I can tell, it spanned several centuries – beginning with the Portuguese in the 15th century (based in what was then called Rio Real) and continuing until the 19th century. Can anyone recommend any authors/sources that would give more precise dates?
