He's a Tuareg, he is from Timbuktu and he was in Timbuktu during the jihadist occupation of the ancient and revered city where he saw the unspeakable destruction of monuments.  And tonight, he is on "StraightTalk with Dr. Chika Onyeani on the AllAfricaRadio" where he will talk about the Malian crisis from his own perspective.  He is Assoumane Maiga, who came to the US as a Fulbright scholar, and when he returned to Mali and spoke out against humanitarian crisis in his city, he was immediately jailed by the Malian military.  He has since been released and is now a Ph.D. candidate at the Oklahoma State University.
