Dear Kayode Ketefe,
The title of your write-up attracted me to read what you had to say. I must say that I was disappointed in that all you did would seem to be to repeat many of the views already known about the school system without any prescriptions unless of course your call for collaboration is your cure for the many failings you listed.
Starting with the WAEC issues, yes standards are very low and continue to hover around the 30% mark. Yes, there continue to be cases of malpractice including the use of the cell phone. Yes, society and parents in particular aid and abet in cheating and of course the access to technology that is not used appropriately also contribute. So what solutions do you proffer?

Could part of the problem not be that of WAEC? If students cheat using their phones in examination rooms, could it not be in part due to poor supervision? I know that that body tries very hard but in finding solutions to any issue the scientific and right approach is not to presume anything that excludes any principal parameter of the problem. What must WAEC, parents, teachers, school authorities do?
On policy you called the 6-3-3-4 a fiasco and refer to the 9-3-4 which I believe has been abandoned. I think the policy has never been the problem as you seem to agree but the implementation. What solution do you have for ensuring that implementation does the right thing?
At the tertiary level, you point to lack of academic integrity, cultism and the rest. I left academia 29 years ago and the rot was there and is getting worse.Like the rest of us all you do is wring your hands and recount the obvious. What do we do about it all?

Your solution:
All the stakeholders, including the governments, private school owners, the parents, the teachers and students themselves must not only desist from all misdeeds that had up till now collectively combine to endanger our
educational system, they must also collaborate to evolve a working
paradigm for the ailing sector.

I wish it were that easy. We need to do better than that.
