Permit me to inform the forum that the helpless incident in Buni-Yadi, Yobe State, occurred not more than six kilometers away from my family house, where children of my siblings attend primary school.
About seven hours before the carnage started, my younger brother who is an under-graduate at Unimaid phoned and informed me that there is panic situation in our village following the withdrawal of Military personnel at the two checking points situated at the entrance of the town and another not far from the scene of the incident. I quickly put a call to a community leader in the area to make contacts and alert the security command, however, he told me that the community leaders have voiced their complaint on the withdrawal of personnel at the affected check points but their fears were allayed (that the movement of the security out of the checking point was as a result of "new security strategy"). Thereafter, I made efforts to get in touch with the member of house of rep of my locality to no avail. Not knowing what to do, I grabbed my phone and tweeted. I then went to bed with full of sadness and state of despair, not knowing what will happen to my community.
My sadness has now grown bigger with intermittent tears gushing out of my eyes.
May the soul of innocent ones that died rest in peace.
