USA Africa Dialogue Series -

OA,
I agree with you that our students from all the states in the federation including Abuja need to do much more than what they have done. But all boils down to funding of the educational sector of the economy. Some states did better than others. One would have thought Southwest and other Yoruba in Kogi and Kwara where education is an 'industry' must braze up and live up to expectation. The governors of these states need to have a self-reflection and go back to correct where things have gone wrong and be more proactive.
You can offer ideas of better standards of education if you have gone through it.
Pa Awolowo muted the idea of a universal free primary education in Nigeria but most leaders of his time did not see any need for it.  Chief. Olusegun Obasanjo insisted during his eight years as president of this country that a compulsory universal education should be enforced but it was not given the seriousness it deserved. It was given an epileptic application and it died naturally.  Now, it is time to call on the Yoruba to champion the call having seen how woefully their children have performed in the recent WAEC result. The Yoruba have an adage that says, if fire is burning someone and his child, the first thing to do is to put off the one on his body before helping the child.
All hands must be put on deck to eradicate the so called miracle centers and more importantly to have honest principals who will not leak question papers to students. All candidates should be given a level playing field. Sound education instills confidence in the students but a student who cheated all through and through will probable have no confidence to deliver on the day reckoning.
May someone like OA not read more negative meanings to my views here expressed.
