On behalf of those who worked so hard to organize over the years - from 1995 and championed the eventual passage of the Bill for the establishment of the DC Office on African Affairs, this is a deserving and welcomed appointment. To the finishing lane crew, who can forget that cold February 9, 2006 and door-to-door lobby of Council members? We got unanimous votes on the two hearings. Only the late former Mayor and then councilman Marion Barry was absent in one of the hearings. The Office on African Affairs was established by law in 2006 by the outgoing Mayor Anthony Williams. It is not an Executive Order. Thanks to current Councilman Vincent Orange, the lead sponsor of the Bill.
May we say it is a new day for Continental Africans in the District of Columbia! Please, forward the information, below, to your groups.
