Ikhide's doubts are well-founded. In several quarters, many who have deep respect for Soyinka have been asking whether he actually made the statement. This is because those are typically the kind of ethno-centric reductionism and demagoguery that Soyinka would be so swift to dismiss as childish. Or, was the sage having a bad day at Harvard?
