we recently had some thread re china's role in africa.
here is a recent piece, detailing chinese aid to rwanda for agriculture.
http://www.shanghaidaily.com/article/article_xinhua.aspx?id=295593
i have a few reflections to share on this. rwanda should normally have
little of interest to china, since china wants mineral or petrolium
resources. but rwanda's militia ties in e congo make it one of the
largest exporters of the kinds of minerals that flow from e congo out:
things like coltan, gold, timber even, tin, etc.
in return, rwandan farmers are supported, even trained, to produce rice
and mushrooms.
ever eat beef and mushroom sauce in a chinese restaurant?
