USA Africa Dialogue Series - Fwd: The Bus, the Driver and the Passengers: Some Members of the Nigerian Intelligentsia and the Collective Scam [Modified]

The Bus, the Driver and the Passengers

Some Members of the Nigerian Intelligentsia and the Collective Scam

                                                                                                                                                                     Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju

Some people wailed that they wanted to arrive in heaven immediately and that the driver of the bus was too slow, too weak, too ill, too short sighted and his heart was full of evil intentions- in spite of all efforts of the driver against massive odds generated largely by some people in the bus.

The creators of those obstacles whose actions were central to the journey struggling against great odds and yet still moving steadily forward, brought up one of their own, a man fully blind in one eye and half blind in the other, as the right driver for the bus that must reach heaven immediately.

Those who ought to have known better, people who had invested their lives in critically examining issues and managing large complex systems, joined the group of jeering, chanting people, insisting that the nearly blind man would be a better driver because the bus was too slow with the driver struggling to navigate the bus even with two clear eyes and the wall of mist thrown up by detractors in the bus and that the blindness of the proposed driver either did not matter or that he was not really blind or that he had regained his eyesight in spite of all evidence to the contrary.

After a hard fought battle where various acts of soft treason and hard treason, betrayals of various kinds against the interests of the passengers of the bus were conducted, the nearly blind man took over and the former driver sat down to rest.

What happened?

The blindness of the new driver becomes increasingly evident, the bus seems to have even left the road and is smashing about in a deadly forest as passengers in the vehicle are being eaten by cannibals in the bus who have become increasingly active because the new driver is one of them but had not earlier publicly flaunted his cannibal nature, the driver and his passengers wallow in confusion and cross purposes, an increasing number of passengers insisting getting off the bus and getting another bus is their only hope of survival and of freedom from being prey for cannibals of the flesh, of the mind and of resources.

As some of those who should have known better earlier speak up in challenging  the unfolding  calamity, they are told to shut up  by those who support the driver... the beat goes on... a journey to nowhere....
