I was once a member of the UCJ at the University of Ibadan, being Managing Editor of my departmental press in my final year as an undergraduate, and I must say that it is very heartening that they have kept up a tradition of unalloyed excellence and commitment to positive values in the midst of a daily decaying academic ambience that fosters mediocrity and inanity. The very fact that this year they by-passed the many faux-intellectuals parading themselves in universities in this country to select an original, perhaps one might add, an archetype, Professor Falola, shows that those young people have their heads screwed on right. This is indeed encouraging given the disturbingly prevalent lack of vision and mission one encounters teaching young people in Nigeria.
May the UCJ UI ever progress. May Professor Falola ever dictate the pace for all others.
