They all, the selected few,

mock us the multitude

we that hope perpetually

We are worthy only

once in four years

"Change" is just one of those

slogans that pulls the wool

over our collective face

One president, and another

rode roughshod their ailing bodies

over our groveling expectations

We the multitude

do not deserve a phone call

Who are we to hear

the voice of the President? 

Let silence smother us

...until 2019!

Then another slogan

will rent the air,

and we the multitude will throng

the polling booths yet again,

daring the sun and the pangs,

to prop another ailing president.
