Re - Hamlet : "You cannot, sir, take from me any thing that I will more willingly part withal—except my life, except my life, except my life." = "You can't take anything from me that I care less about—except my life, except my life, except my life." ( No Fear Shakespeare)
"A question in your nerves is lit
Yet you know there is no answer fit to satisfy
Insure you not to quit" etc. ( Dylan – It's alright ma (I'm only bleeding)
The situation of christians in many parts of the Muslim world is dire – but not especially so in Nigeria...
In Nigeria, whilst Christian congregations are busy, zealously defending themselves and sometimes , in the process of self-defence committing manslaughter and murder, shouldn't the pastors be praying for forgiveness for themselves and also be praying for the souls those that they slay or have slain?
It's a formidable list of Catholic bishops in Nigeria of whom we , at least I am mostly familiar with the brave and outspoken Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of Sokoto, who from time to time has weighed in on some of these dangerous matters.
Shouldn't it be the lot of Christian fellowship of all denominations to preach peace and not confrontation/ holy war/jihad? Only asking...

Peacetimes or wartimes, in time maybe we will be edified by an edifying homily by Nimi Wariboko or Lamin Sanneh on the subject of a government's obligations when it comes to protecting the lives of its citizens...
"You can't take anything from me that I care less about—except my life, except my life, except my life." (Hamlet)
Your money or your life? asks the highway robber. Life, sweet life, dear life is no joking matter, is all we have. Even in the age of the suicide bomber or Christian martyrdom in Nigeria, it's clear to see that something's not quite right.
For Christians it's Romans 8.38
From the once upon a time children's rime, " Gentle Jesus meek and mild"
to these post-modernity times : that it has now got to the point where we find
in the name of Jesus
in order to protect themselves, the Apostle Johnson Suleiman likewise "to kill "
in the name of Jesus
And as if that wasn't bad enough, that the Archbishop Ignatus Kaigama of the Catholic Diocese also has to be calling upon his flock with these words: "Defend Yourselves" -
as if law and order has completely collapsed in the Federal Naija Republic and they can no longer depend on the current government;
as if its poorly paid police and military whose duty it is to defend its citizenry's lives and limbs, is now defunct to the extent that otherwise good citizens have to take up arms to protect themselves –
Apparently, the church which can no longer afford to remain passive or to follow the Jesus doctrine of "turn the other cheek" (against" radical Islam") is not alone in this: None less than His Eminence the Emir of Kano himself has said that Nigerians should have the right to defend themselves (against Boko Haram) ..
