Brother Kwabena:
Professor F. Abiola Irele served Nigeria and Africa well. In fact, for many years he taught at university of Ghana, University of Ife, and University of Ibadan before he moved to the USA to teach at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, from where he went to Harvard. Indeed, he left Harvard University for Kwara State University to serve as the Provost for some years. Above all, he was a dual citizen of Nigeria and America (and, indeed, Africa). Therefore, giving him a befitting burial in America, where his nuclear family lives permanently, should make no difference. With my own nuclear family living permanently in America, I ask you (Brother Kwabena) for a similar U.S. burial when I meet my day! Most certainly, my 97-year old mother will understand! Amen!!
May Prof (as we affectionately called him) rest in perfect peace until he as well as Professors Chinua, Mazrui (Nana Ali), Okpewho and other Eminent Scholars in Heaven welcome us one day into the Kingdom, Amen!
A.B. Assensoh.

This great man would not be sent home for burial! Well he was a cosmopolitan citizen!
