Miguna Miguna Mania!
This has been a Miguna Miguna week for me, as I followed the latest drama surrounding the Kenyan opposition figure which started on Monday afternoon, and seems to have climaxed for now. However, I expect episode 2 or 5 or 7 (depending on your counting metrics) to resume soon. Miguna Miguna was deported in February for participating in the mock swearing-in of defeated(?) presidential candidate Raila Odinga. This week, he was arrested trying to re-enter the country, and deported a second time.
This is by no means a joke. Africans across the continent are asking one another: can this happen, even to ME, in my own country, TODAY? It has happened previously in some places of course. Others are askance at the executive's blatant disregard for the judiciary, and asking, so what recourse can citizens have, if the judiciary in a presumedly democratic state is not the last hope of the common man? Again, this is only the latest in a long line of such disrespect for the rule of law. And many more Africans are not even surprised by these events; haven't we seen it all before somewhere, sometime? And they go about their daily business.
Ultimately, I want peace in Kenya, but equally important for all of us I would say, would be for Kenya to halt its rapid decline into a despotic state -- ignoring court orders, shutting down TV stations, muzzling the press, arresting and detaining opposition figures, deporting enemies, violating rights to individual freedoms, utilising the security forces for purely political objectives... and so on.
Here are some of the videos I've been watching on how events unfolded. Take your pick.

Miguna Miguna refuses to be deported to Dubai:
Jeff Koinange (remember him? formerly at CNN) just happened to be on the very aircraft that Miguna was bundled onto, headed to Dubai. He gives his narration here:
In Dubai, Miguna explains to the BBC how he was deported:
Destination next: From Dubai, to London?:
And just in case you missed it, here is one particular viral video from the gubernatorial election campaigns of 2016 that got Miguna Miguna, and his extreme forthrightness, noticed as more than just a local Kenyan politician. You will enjoy this immensely... and also wish someone in your own country could take down the 'rogues' like this:
