Many people die from asthma daily, while the number of those suffering from the illness is on the increase. In the sub-Saharan Africa and especially in Nigeria where most people live far below poverty level, getting adequate medical attention and awareness on the management of the disease is an extremely difficult task because of lack of the basic amenities and health centres. The existing health centres are either ill-equipped or not equipped at all to manage asthma patients.
As a man with a passion and deep conviction to help those suffering from asthma, allergy and other respiratory diseases live a quality life, having lost my beautiful and loving wife from the disease, we have in the last two years been implementing programmes and activities related to this without getting any financial support from external sources.
The lack of adequate funding has been a great inhibition in making greater impact to the lives of people suffering from the disease and has limited the progress our foundation has made as oftentimes, we don't follow-up because lack of medicine, medical equipments that aids proper breathing etc. As expected, the demand for support - financial and otherwise from those with the diseases grow by the day. In addition to providing medications to some of the indigent ones, we organise periodic asthma awareness programmes/meetings - workshops, conferences and capacity building on asthma management. We visit schools and feature regularly on live radio and TV phone-in programmes. These cost so much money which we unfortunately don't have which is why we are soliciting your financial and material support.
