This has been the pattern of piwer relationships in African societies (and even Eurooean) before colonialism and the expansion of nuclear family structure.
Ibrahim Babangida did the same upon leaving office: took a new wife from the family of a power broker.
Although the habit is now practised within a monogamous setting in Europe it accounts for the wedding of Her Majesty to the Duke of Edinburgh. It also accounts more recently for the choice of the Duchess of Sussex by the young Duke: power relations. In the case of the Sussexes to solidify the relationship between the UK & the US ( the soft power of international relations by the Royals.)
