Subject: Poetry Month is Here!
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Poetry Month is here again! I wanted to send you this email but held off to avoid sending it on April Fools' Day, so I could add another day of laughter (LOL).
Two days ago, I received from Kathryn Toiure this link to a very pertinent piece, titled "Solidarity Through Poetry'' (published by the Boston Review). It's a worthy read: https://www.bostonreview.net/articles/mark-nowak-solidarity-through-poetry/
Also sharing some of my favorite quotes about poetry, that will place a smile on your face ):
Here they are:
1) "Poetry is an act of peace." ― Pablo Neruda
2) "Poetry is like a bird, it ignores all frontiers." ― Yevgeny Yevtushenko
3) "Poetry is truth in its Sunday clothes." ― Joseph Roux
4) "Poetry isn't a profession; it's a way of life. It's an empty basket; you put your life into it and make something out of that." ― Mary Oliver
5) "Poems come out of wonder, not out of knowing." ― Lucille Clifton
6) "Poetry is plucking at the heartstrings, and making music with them." ― Dennis Gabor
7) "Poetry is eternal graffiti written in the heart of everyone." ― Lawrence Ferlinghetti
8) "There is not a particle of life which does not bear poetry within it." ― Gustave Flaubert
9) "Don't use the phone. People are never ready to answer it. Use poetry." ― Jack Kerouac
10) "Poetry is the journal of a sea animal living on land, wanting to fly in the air." – Carl Sandburg
11) "Poetry is the dreaming vein of society." – Breyten Breytenbach
12) "Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash." ― Leonard Cohen
13) "Poetry is the journal of a sea animal living on land, wanting to fly in the air." ― Carl Sandburg
14) "Poetry is nearer to vital truth than history." – Leonardo da Vinci
Enjoy!
