Karen Lauterbach, PhD, is Associate Professor and Director at the Centre of African Studies, University of Copenhagen. Her research focuses on Christianity and histories of social change in Africa. She has written about charismatic Christianity, wealth, and power in Ghana as well as Christianity, displacement, and moral practices of helping and hosting in Uganda. Her work has focused in particular on the role of pastors including their social status and legitimacy. She has published the monograph Christianity, Wealth, and Spiritual Power in Ghana (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017) and co-edited Faith in African Lived Christianity: Bridging Anthropological and Theological Perspectives (Brill 2019) as well as numerous journal articles and book chapters such as the book chapter 'Grounding the Prosperity Gospel: Sites of Wealth and Power in Ghana' (2023) co-authored with George M. Bob-Milliar.
