USA Africa Dialogue Series - Blessed are those who struggle!

It's not meant to be poetry

far from it

the lines are only organised

this way to make it much easier

to read and catch meaning

capu sense

I almost wrote

"The lies are only organised

this way to make it much easier

to read and catch meaning"

"Blessed are those who struggle!

Long live Mia Mottley the current Prime Minister of Barbados !

Redolent of Fela Kuti's epiphany

just as The Last Poets bray

in When the Revolution Comes,

no doubt, so some of you who pray

to your father who is in heaven

will catch it all on Al Jazeera :

"When the revolution comes some of us will probably catch it on TV

With chicken hanging from our mouths "

My mother, "seismic with laughter" etc

It's not the name of a new cloud pregnant with rain

and with meaning

hanging

over the political landscape

like that damn cliché sword of Damocles:

Zombie Democracy

Yes, you heard that right 👍

ZOMBIE DEMOCRACY !

Play-cook democracy

Who the cap fit

Who the cap fit let him wear it

There are other ominous clouds like this

clouding the firmament

first the avoidable

the incendiary

"Nigeria will burn

spontaneous combustion

hard vs hard,

fire on fire

fuel fire

compounded by

fusiliers' fusil fire

never a good idea

the first African novel I ever read

when I was about thirteen:

Cry, the Beloved Country

and now what say those who have

all that Achebe and Adichie

under their belts, still chirping about Biafra

as if "History Will Teach Us Nothing"

Igbos on the run again in Lagos State

Borno State flooding

More chaos in Lagos

But you don't have to worry too much

No matter where you came from

God will take care of Nigeria

God will take care of you

Yesterday, via  Zoom, I attended the funeral service of my cousin Balogun's wife, Mrs Elfrida Cornilia Taiwo Tagoe - in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The Zoom event went on for six hours. Small world. She started her education , attending primary school in Kaduna, Northern Nigeria and served the country as a school teacher for over three decades…
