USA Africa Dialogue Series - Burna Boy Sounds Creatively Exhausted

Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - RE: Military -seizes-power-in-gabon-after-bongos-vict

There was no real democracy in gabon or equatorial guinea or congo brazzaville. That wasn’t true of niger. But the others are sham democracies. Rwanda too.
But i don’t see how the military coup will bring a better regime; i predict in all these cases the military will use their power to take over whatever economic forces they can, like egypt or zimbabwe.

Why is it unacceptable to overthrow, via a coup, a government that tramples on various aspects of a nation's constitution? Because an agreement has been signed to preserve a  corrupt and incompetent government that neglects the needs of its citizens?
It is Bongo now. I pray that these changes do not result in violence that will destroy the country. But the changes are welcome. African governments must know that 'democracy ' will not save them if they continue to convert their countries into failed states.

Tinubu is doing what he is doing in Niger because that country is a member of ECOWAS and every ECOWAS member subscribed to the union's protocol against unconstitutional change of government and Tinubu happens to be the ECOWAS chair at this time.

USA Africa Dialogue Series - How to copy the USA

We did not copy the USA   Constitution  properly  this might explain  why it is not  working for us in nigeria

For instance in the USA  the    states  have  their individual  constitutions  and the Governors are  referred to as  commander in chief

we should also not forget, DIversity, equity and sustainability, inclusivity.we should use our ballpoint pens to actualise all these not email or social media,

geta stamp, envelope and writing paper and in your long hand wtrite to your elected representatives at the three tiers calling for restructuring.
you could also photocopy and circulate in yur community calling for restructuring .,democracy calls for citizens participation,24 7 365 ,not just on election day..

Let my people Go! 100 per cent local government Autonomy!!
There are federal laws, state laws and local government laws.so there should be federal police, state police and local government police.
Nigerian governors are guilty of the sane crime they are accusing the federal government of Muhammad buhari in choosing not to grant 100 per cent autonomy to the local governments and the council's
They choose to use the local government chairman perhaps as errand boys to award contract and to win elections and probably to divert funds. Same with the councillors
Ideally, the sharing formula should be 60 per cent to the local government, 30 to the states and 10 per cent to the federal government.
The state governors control too much including the commissioner's, members of the House of assembly, local government chairmen and councillors! That's perhaps why the system is not working.
The Governor's should be limited to the commissioners. The others having 100 per cent autonomy.
The Governor's should be based in small towns and the biggest cities should have mayors. This is how it should be.so it is in the USA; The Governors have centrifugal force. That is forces acting out. Widespread! And the mayors of the metropolitan cities have Centripetal force. Forces acting in. concentrated at the centre. a good book to read is titled,When mayors rule the world..this would attact more competent people to contesting for seat of local government
In this way we would have persons competent enough to be president of Nigeria as local government chairman and hence an explosion of development #develop

USA Africa Dialogue Series - Why coup in Africa?

I think there is a big gap  in the orientation  of the politicians jn Africa and the military  as far as training, sacrifice  and leadership are concerned.
For instance  in the military  whst yhe teach them is that the  leader eats lasts  but in politics  the leader eats first.
In the military  generally  only the best  are expected to rise to the top  in politics any body can get to the too.same with religion but not with the judiciary  or nedicine. So in some instances the soldiers fèel resentment at being led by inferiors thru also have sound mind in sound bodies.they are disciplined.

Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - RE: Military -seizes-power-in-gabon-after-bongos-vict

CAO,
I am one of your silent admirers. I like your interpretations of events.
In this case, I beg to disagree with your response.
Some  leaders of so-called advanced democracies in Europe have been known to keep mistresses. In my view, such leaders are allowing prostitutes to occupy the spaces of their wives.
Yes, we divorce misbehaving wives. The people on Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and now Niger and a few yet to follow are in essence getting rid of their misbehaving leaders. Call it what you may, a coup is similar to a divorce without a dialogue.

I am offended whenever I hear the phrase 'civilized world' or the word primitivity.  If I see what the so-called civilization is doing to the world now, destroying the environment, implementing economic models that keep the Global South in perpetual poverty, amplify inequalities,  build Drones and bombs to destroy the same civilization,  I'll choose primitivity, I'm sorry.
If the current political situation is the best democracy can deliver African,  it ought to be reimagined. What's happening in the francafrique now is a reimagining of the inherited governance architecture. It could well end badly. But at least it is a trial.
The sad part is that the Anglophones still have their heads in the sand.

Edward,

Do we allow prostitutes to take over our conjugal spaces because our wives misbehave?

We correct such wives or divorce and marry other wives if the misbehaving wives refuse to mend their bad ways.

By the way, those allegations of misbehaviours are still allegations and must be proved beyond all reasonable doubts.

This is the burden civilization imposes on us, otherwise, it would be back to primitivity in which persons were burnt to death, their property distroyed on mere allegations.

USA Africa Dialogue Series - Adebayo Adelabu and fixing electric Power supply

The first thing I would suggest  to Adebayo Adelabu  the minister of Power  is to reach out to the president of the Power correspondents of nigeria  for  their own data base or portfolio of reports on the Power sector.. they would have a lot of gold nuggets as to the way forward as well as speak to the secretary electricity workers union.
The minister should have in mind the Triple helix ofv university, government and industry..
You are not going to solve the power  problem by throwing money at it or buying things off the shelf.it would not work .you need the dedicated attentkn of our acsdemics. The three acsdemic cultures.
If you are not convinced  find out from the lsgos business school .one of their lecturers  has authored a definitive book on power problem in Nigeria. By a very prestigious publisher. I think routledge or springer.

There needs to be the proper funding of our physics and electrical engineering departments  via a cost benefit analysis. Also proper funding for jets clubs that is junnoiur, engineers and technicians clubs as you find onnour econdary schools and also massive funding for children's science  in addition to free feeding fot these vhildren

Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Letter to OpS and President bola Ahmed tinubu

Thank you Sir for this salient observation of exclusion of academics in the scheme of policy making in Nigeria.

Everyday I am worried by the lack of understanding by Nigerian policy makers, administrators and especially politicians that the developed and 'almost developed' world runs a knowledge economy!

In the economic battle we are in and the cyclical narrative of devaluation of naira causes prices of IMPORTED refined crude oil to rise necessitating further devaluation of the naira and further devaluation makes the price of IMPORTED refined crude oil to rise again amongst others, how many economics or political science professors (leaning to the left, right and centre) have been invited to debate with the economic team of the president? What is the general direction of economic development that priotises the socioeconomic and demographic characteristics, the informal  economy and grassroot production capacities of Nigeria in the context of international economics and politics? How many professors from all directions of socio-political divide have been invited to discuss this with the 'development-conscious cult' (if it exists at all) of the President?
How can we create an enabling environment for town-gown collaborations for development? Meanwhile, there are all kinds of conferences, workshops and project presentations going on all over the country's universities. The outcome/communique of the conferences and outcome of research/projects just hang somewhere until the researchers go for conferences outside the country or published and a few years later a product that seemingly utilises the knowledge is produced!

I am worried by the thought that the education sector is just a problem that needs to be silenced so the country can move on! Or am I just imagining things??

Thanks for ruminating with me!

President Bola tinubu this perhaps goes against equity and inclusivity you claim you are passionate about other wise rather than  dwell on private sector-  government collaboration we should emphasise the Triple Helix of university, government and industry.
I have seen something of a pilot project initiated by the nigerian branch of the founders institute from silicon Valley and the national content development  and monitoring board.ths ts the spirit but it needs to be scaled up.

USA Africa Dialogue Series - Letter to OpS and President bola Ahmed tinubu

Dear President Bola tinubu and the Organised private sector
Ìwe le mo. E o mo owo that is what the government and private sector seems to be saying to the academics or in American psrlance" if you are so smart why ain't you so rich? So we find dichotomies.dividing lines or unnecessary differences  as the NESG,nigerian economic summit group for private sector and nigerian economic society for Academia and so the nigerian I stitute of social and economic research is perhaps poorer for it and weaker for it.

We should be concerned about the loud silence on the education sector following the meeting of the federal executive Council towards reviving the nigerian economy and taking nigeria out of the woods.
President Bola tinubu this perhaps goes against equity and inclusivity you claim you are passionate about other wise rather than  dwell on private sector-  government collaboration we should emphasise the Triple Helix of university, government and industry.
I have seen something of a pilot project initiated by the nigerian branch of the founders institute from silicon Valley and the national content development  and monitoring board.ths ts the spirit but it needs to be scaled up.
there sre only 17 portfolio firms. On their way from startup  to global business  but we have 9000 professors,60,000 lecturers 300.000 post graduates  and 1.8 million  undergraduates
At this juncture I would like to bring to your attention the recent work of professor Eniola Betiku. a chemical Engineer at obafemi Awolowo university  he has co edited a must have  book on Green energy  and Technology using Bio ethanol as substitute for fossil fuel. There is also Manchester Metropolitan University based Professor Bamidele Adebisi an expert on intelligent infrastructure whose phD student this year won best of the best innovators in UK for a water engineering related project.
My president there are 135 milion nigerias exposed to contaminated water maybe professor Adebisi can help.
Thank you my president
